The Brandt-Daroff exercise is a home-based habituation exercise for BPPV. Unlike the Epley maneuver which is a canalith repositioning procedure, the Brandt-Daroff works by repeatedly exposing the brain to the symptom-provoking position, gradually reducing the vertigo response through adaptation.
How to Perform
Sit on the edge of a bed. Quickly lie down on one side with your head turned slightly upward. Hold this position for 30 seconds or until the vertigo subsides. Slowly sit back up. Repeat on the other side. Perform 5 repetitions per side, 2-3 times daily.
